Zakk Wylde recently discussed with Ultimate Guitar why we should support guitarists who get popular on social media.
The guitarist talked about why social media is a good platform:
“But no, I think it’s a great platform because back in the day if you didn’t have a record deal by the time you were 30, the dream is over, man. You gotta sell all your gear and get a normal crappy job that you can’t stand and give up.”
Wylde Thinks Musicians Don’t Need Anybody Else
He continued comparing today to the past:
“Today, you can build your band like a mom-and-pop shop and be your own boss and dictate your life to it, which I think is awesome. It’s the best, because this way you’re not at the mercy of somebody else. You don’t need anybody.”
Herman Li’s Thoughts On Social Media
In an interview with Ultimate Guitar earlier this month, Dragonforce’s Herman Li also said social media is more profitable and effective for young musicians nowadays. The rocker explained:
“You’ve got to be smart and think where you want to go in terms of direction. If you just want to do what you want to do and don’t care about anything else, which is just keep doing social media stuff. But you’ve got to work the ‘influencer route’ because that’ll pay better than a record label a lot of the time.”
American singer Kitten Kuroi also spoke on social media’s transformative impact on today’s music scene. She thinks every artist can be their own boss without the help of a major label. Following her words, Stve Stevens also agreed with her in his comment.
Wylde will hit the road with Pantera in May for their appearance at the Sonic Temple Festival. They will also play at the Download Festival in June and later at Barcelona Rock Fest.
