Sammy Hagar recently admitted to Variety that he worked better with other musicians like Eddie Van Halen and Joe Satriani when it came to songwriting. He explained:
“Not to beat my chest or anything, but I’m a real easy guy to work with. I really don’t have an ego when it comes to music. I’m always better with other people, I’ll be the first to admit. I personally know that when I write songs with Eddie [Van Halen] or Joe [Satriani], they were better than what I could do myself.”
Turns Out He’s Easier To Work With
Joe Satriani confirmed Hagar’s words in a chat with ‘The Hook Rocks.’ He compared the Chickenfoot vocalist with David Lee Roth and explained:
“I tend to think that the real difference here is that Sammy has a real sort of inclusive way of looking at life and he notices when there’s conflict that is getting in the way of doing something good and he’ll try to fix it.”
The guitarist added:
“So as a result, it’s just like he says, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna do ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love’. I know it’s not my song, but that’s cool.’ Now you ask David Lee Roth, ‘Hey, are you gonna do ‘5150’?’ Of course he’s never gonna do it.”
Hagar Reunites With Van Halen Bandmates
Joe Satriani and Sammy Hagar will perform together at an upcoming summer 2024 tour. Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham will also join the lineup for the ‘Best Of All Worlds’ trek.
Hagar previously invited DLR and Alex Van Halen to the new shows as well. The ex-Van Halen frontman showed interest in the offer, but the ‘Catch The Wind’ singer made it clear that the collaboration was possible only for a short performance.
