Ryan Gosling recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and said he wasn’t sure Slash would join him at the Oscars.
After Kimmel told the actor that Slash was an important part of his Oscar performance of the song ‘I’m Just Ken,’ Gosling replied:
“He’s an enigma. How can you have Slash? You can’t have Slash. So much mystery around Slash.”
Kimmel added after him:
“You don’t snap your fingers and he appears.”
Slash Had A Busy Schedule
Ryan continued to say:
“It was very tense. He had a gig in China the night before and then one in Thailand the night after. So it was like Slash is never going to be able to be here. He wasn’t at rehearsal.”
Kimmel stepped in and asked:
“He wasn’t even at rehearsal the day of, right?”
The actor responded:
“And then suddenly, as I was walking into dress rehearsal, I saw a guitar case and it had a skull with a top hat on it. I knew that Slash had arrived. Then after the show, he was gone.”
How Did Slash Become A Part Of The ‘Barbie’ Film?
Guns N’ Roses guitarist appeared on the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack and contributed to the guitar parts of ‘I’m Just Ken.’ Wolfgang Van Halen was another musician who joined Slash. The two also performed at the Oscars while Gosling and other ‘Barbie’ cast members sang the track.
In a chat with Brooke Marsden last year, the rocker talked about how producer Mark Ronson convinced him to play on the song:
“And he goes, ‘Well, it’s for the ‘Barbie’ movie,’ and whatnot. So I said okay. It was funny because he sent it to me as a demo, and I started working on it as a demo, and then he started introducing real drums to it and other changes. So all of a sudden, I had to trash what I did already and do it again, and it actually was one of those one-offs that took a little bit longer than I had expected it to take, but it was fun to do it for Mark, and it’s actually a pretty funny song.”
Later, in March of this year, Slash sat down with Classic Rock and disclosed that he had no plans to collaborate with Gosling in the future. Still, he praised the actor’s performance at the Oscars.
