Outer Banks Season 3 premiered in February 2023 and, while it received mixed reviews, fans have high expectations for the fourth season. Like many other television shows, the season was delayed by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. However, filming has now officially wrapped, and while an official date has not been announced, the first episode is expected sometime in October. Season 4 will consist of 10 episodes, and Netflix has yet to announce if they will split the season and release it in two parts as they have done with several hit shows of late.
What Fans Can Expect for Outer Banks Season 4
With Season 4, Episode One, titled Blackbeard Hunt, it’s safe to say Blackbeard’s treasure will be the next big prize the Pogues seek out. In the Season 3 finale, the Pogues were approached by a strange man who claimed to have the captain’s log. This document detailed the exact route Blackbeard’s ship sailed before it wrecked in 1718, losing all his gold. So, will the Pogues consider treasure hunting for hire in the upcoming season?
The original core cast members will be returning alongside a few new additions in Season 4. The new recruits include J. Anthony Crane, Pollyanna McIntosh, and Brianna Brown, with Rigo Sanchez joining as Lightner, a dangerous stranger who will test the Pogues. Also, Mia Challis joins as Ruthie, who will develop a close relationship with Topper.

Outer Banks is a fast-paced, mystery drama where friendships and relationships are constantly changing. While the adventuring and treasure hunting are exhilarating, the bonds between the Pogues are really the heart of the show. Over its three seasons, the main characters have faced a number of trials and still managed to persevere whenever their plans were dashed, either by rivals the Camerons or any other obstacle thrown in their way. In the Season 3 finale, the Pogues finally taste victory after finding the gold in El Dorado, and co-creator Josh Pate has since revealed why they needed a win:
“We knew we needed to give them a win, but it ended up being a complicated one. We wanted the audience to feel that they had accomplished something and that it wasn’t all for nothing.”
However, the win was bittersweet as they also had to come to terms with the deaths of both Ward and Big John. After all this time, fans are wondering where the characters are as a group and individually in Season 4. The reveal of a new surf shop shows the group in seemingly good spirits. However, things in Kildare are never that simple. It seems like the new season will unpack all the emotional developments from the 18-month time skip and onward. Pate has also since shared his approach and ideas for Season 4:
“They need to slow down and let all the ripples wash through. We’re getting some ideas about that [for Season 4], because I agree. You want the crazy jumping[-off-ships] stuff, but you want an emotional realism. Taking stock and letting the impact of things really reverberate is part of keeping it emotionally real, which allows us to do crazier stunts.”
