During a recent appearance on Appetite for Distortion, Bruce Dickinson talked about how he gets away from the bad parts of being a rock star.
The singer said he feels like he’s in different bubbles when he performs at small clubs, theaters, and big arenas. He needs to inflate this balloon while playing in arenas because it requires him to put so much effort into performing well to such a big crowd. Bruce continued by saying:
“So I mean, everybody’s got the little balloon and everybody’s capable of inflating it. It’s just that my job is doing it to a ridiculous extent. So I treat that balloon as kind of almost in the third person. I’m like, ‘Okay, the big balloon is out there but that’s not really a state to exist in the real world.’”
What Does Bruce Do After The Shows Ended?
Dickinson explained how he handled fame:
“So I try and deflate it at the end of the show and be quiet and just run away somewhere into a dark corner and hide. That’s how I do that. That’s how I deal with it and that’s how I hope I’ve retained some semblance of sanity in what can be a very toxic environment for people.”
Dickinson Thinks Rock Star Label Is Nothing
Last month, the vocalist also spoke with the French digital media company Brut. about the concept of being a rock star. He revealed it doesn’t mean much to him:
“Actually, it’s nothing. It’s just an invention of the media and the socials and whatever picture you took and if you’re popular. It’s actually nothing. If you said, ‘I’m a storyteller,’ that’s something.”
Dickinson also talked about his ordinary lifestyle:
“I don’t go around with bodyguards. I don’t drive around in limousines. I take the metro, or I walk. I don’t own a car. I have a bicycle, and I take the metro—in London and here [in Paris] all the time.”
After playing two gigs at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California over the weekend, the singer started his first solo tour in more than 20 years on April 15 at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. He will perform in South America for the remaining dates for April. Then, he will head towards the UK and Europe for more shows.
