Will We Ever See a Galaxy Quest Sequel?
Released back in 1999, Galaxy Quest was met with rave reviews from critics at the time but flew under the radar somewhat with audiences. The movie has since garnered a passionate cult following and is even considered by many to be something of an official Star Trek film due to its affectionate approach to the iconic franchise, the sci-fi genre, and the diehard fandom.
With legacy sequels now big business in Hollywood, many have wondered if the Galaxy Quest crew will ever return. News of a follow-up first broke back in 2017, with Amazon Studios wanting to bring the world of Galaxy Quest to the small screen. A big screen sequel was also put into early development at one stage but, sadly, following the death of Alan Rickman in 2016, this idea came to a halt. The last we heard about a possible Galaxy Quest 2 writer Georgia Pritchett (Succession) and Simon Pegg (Spaced, Star Trek Beyond) had begun working on the long-gestating series. This has since been confirmed by Galaxy Quest star Sam Rockwell, who said that he would love to return for more.
“It was a really lucky thing, that film. If there was a sequel to Galaxy Quest, we would be on it. We talked about it, maybe like a limited series. Simon Pegg talked about helping with it, actually.”
Once again, the 4K Blu-ray release of
