Ace Frehley doesn’t want to release a live album because fans record shows on their phones.
The guitarist joined an interview with Goldmine and said his record label suggested a live album after his latest solo release, ‘10,000 Volts.’ Still, he declined the offer:
“I just got off the phone with my record company a few hours ago and they wanted me to do a live album instead of ‘Origins Volume Three’, but I talked them out of it. I said to them, ‘Listen, when KISS did ‘Alive’ and ‘Alive II’, we didn’t allow recording of shows.’”
Ace’s Experiences With Phones At Live Shows
He thinks it will make any alterations in the studio obvious:
“But every time I do a concert now, everybody’s recording the show with their iPhone. So even if I make some mistakes or sing flat here or there live, I can doctor it up in the studio and do overdubs and so forth, but all the kids are going to have the original concert, and they’re going to A-B it and say, ‘This isn’t live.’”
The New Album Is On The Way
So, Frehley convinced them to work on ‘Origins Volume Three.’ The earlier ‘Origins’ albums came out in 2016 and 2020. The rocker worked on these albums with special guests like Slash, Lita Ford, and his former bandmate Paul Stanley. At the beginning of this year, he reflected on who might be in the new record:
“We can get some great guest stars and pick some really great songs I haven’t done. Because remember, in the late ’60s and early ’70s, there was so many great songs. Lita Ford called me up the other day; she wants to be involved again. I’ve gotta give Slash a call. That’s all I can say at the moment… ‘Origins Vol. 3’ is gonna be the next release.”
‘Origins Vol. 2’ arrived in September 2020, and included covers of songs by The Beatles, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and Jimi Hendrix. It also featured a bonus track cover of the 1975 KISS song ‘She.’
