A Scrubs revival could be headed our way, and recent comments made by series star Zach Braff will only fuel our optimism for its arrival. Braff, who starred in the medical comedy for its entire 9-season run, recently discussed the likelihood of a follow-up and the obstacle standing in the way of the show’s development. Scrubs, which follows the lives of employees at (fictional) Scared Heart Hospital, is centered around Braff’s J.D., a young doctor embarking on his medical career. While promoting a Garden State concert in honor of the indie film’s 20th anniversary, Braff told Variety:
“[‘Scrubs’ creator] Bill Lawrence is going press every other week because he’s got so many hit shows, so if you look at his statements, they get more and more definitive. I’m not speaking out of school when I say it’s a business thing. He’s got a Warner Bros. deal but ‘Scrubs’ is a Disney show. I know for a fact they’re negotiating to figure out how that would work. I think once that’s figured out, it’s very likely it will happen.”
Should a Scrubs revival come to fruition, Braff is all in, and loves the idea of “getting back together” with the original cast and crew.
“The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes of maybe one or two seasons, and just laughing with everyone? That sounds like a dream.”
Who Will We See in a Scrubs Revival?
Speculation of a Scrubs follow-up has been revving up, with series stars sharing their enthusiasm for the project. Lawrence, whose beloved television credits include Scrubs, Spin City, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking, recently said that talks about the revival were happening and that crew members and cast mates were excited about the opportunity to work on the project.
“I think it’s getting really close to being figured out, and I think in a good way. Big chunks of the creative team behind the camera, and most of it from in front of the camera, are all super invested and excited, so very close,” Lawrence shared.

Scrubs star Zach Braff explains why he thinks Season 9 was such a let-down.
While Lawrence didn’t say who we could expect to see back from the original show, Donald Faison, who starred as Dr. Chris Turk during Scrubs‘ run, has also been vocal about his support for the revival and the possibility of reuniting with his cast mates. Heather Graham, who portrayed psychiatrist Dr. Molly Clock during the show’s fourth season, recently shared that she “would love to be in the ‘Scrubs’ revival.” Along with Braff and Faison, Scrubs starred Sarah Chalke, Bill Lawrence, Neil Flynn, Judy Reyes, John C. McGinley, and Christa Miller. The series is available to stream on Hulu and Peacock.
While it seems a Scrubs revival is on the horizon with J.D. back in his scrubs, don’t expect to see Braff back for a Garden State sequel. Braff says he wants to leave the cult indie classic “as is.” In honor of the movie, which Braff wrote, directed, and starred in, he is organizing a concert featuring The Shins, Iron & Wine, Frou Frou, Colin Hay, Thievery Corporation, and others from the film’s Grammy-winning soundtrack, which will take place on March 29, 2025, at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater. Proceeds will benefit The Midnight Mission, an emergency shelter and service center that assists people experiencing homelessness.
