Yungblud has addressed the recent controversy The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has been in.
Healy made some not-so-nice comments about plenty of musicians last year. As a result, he faced a great amount of criticism from both fans and other rockers. In a recent conversation with NME, Yungblud recalled the incident and shared his thoughts about the matter. He said about the ‘privileged white dude’:
“Honestly, I don’t really care. That whole ’75 thing was funny to me. It was quite funny because we were in Manchester Arena [Healy’s hometown], ironically, when that whole thing happened. It went on a little too long, and that’s why I found it funny. I like the dude. I think he’s a bit of an idiot, but I like his f*cking tunes.”
The singer continued:
“It was a pretty cool thing; I was like, ‘F*ck it, right, some f*cker’s talking about me, cool’. I thought about it for about two minutes before I went on stage, and never thought about it again since.”
What Healy Said About Other Musicians
Healy faced backlash online for his comments during his appearance on The Adam Friedland Show podcast. During the conversation, he stated that Harry Styles is not heavily criticized for ‘queer-baiting. He also discussed Ice Spice’s heritage. Healy speculated whether she has Hawaiian, Inuit, or Chinese ancestry and claimed she has been ‘imitating’ accents from these regions.
Later, Healy apologized to Ice Spice and acknowledged the hurt he caused to other musicians. But this didn’t stop people from criticizing the frontman.
Yungblud took to X to make a post that was aimed at Healy. He wrote while referring to the singer as a ‘privileged white dude’:
“Love listening to three privileged white dudes sit around and objectify a young black female artist who’s blowing up. Welcome to your 30’s I guess.”
Healy Did Not Stop With Controversial Comments
Healy might have received criticism, but he still continued to pick on various musicians. Ultimately, it was time to make comments about Yungblud. He posted a clip of himself on social media mimicking Yungblud’s accent. He said:
“I don’t stand for stuff, I stand against stuff… I just stand against stuff and it tends to be the most morally obvious stuff… f*ck the patriarchy!”
Although he apologized after his comments about Ice Spice, Healy hasn’t said anything about his additional comments.
