Beth Dutton may be at home on the range, but is heading for distant shores for her next project. The British star is set to appear in a new crime thriller, Under Salt Marsh, set on the Welsh seaside.
The series is set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, where Reilly’s Jackie—a former detective turned teacher—gets swept back into the world of crime solving when she discovers the body of one of her students. The apparent drowning leaves the community stricken as they deal not only with the death of one child, but the resurfacing of the case that cost Jackie her career—the disappearance of her own niece three years previous.
“Under Salt Marsh is a crime thriller set in a community deeply connected to its environment, and interwoven with the heartache, fears, dreams and secrets of its people,” said Claire Oakley, who will not only serve as the show’s creator and writer, but showrunner as well. “At the heart of it all is Jackie, a character who embodies the wildness of the place we’re depicting. She’s free-spirited, compassionate, and determined, with a steely resolve that makes her truly of the land. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Kelly Reilly bringing Jackie to life.”
The project is slated to begin production this year.
For several months, it’s been rumored that Reilly could also be joining a new after the flagship show ends its run later this year, however no official announcements about her involvement have been made so far.
The Dutton-verse did recently reveal plans for a new spin-off series, apparently set to follow on Yellowstone‘s heels. The series will be, “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana,” according to Paramount. Michelle Pfeiffer is set to star alongside star Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, and Beau Garrett.
