Wolfgang Van Halen opened up about his father Eddie Van Halen and where he has been keeping his father’s gear.
In a new interview with Chris Shiflett, Wolf discussed his father’s gear and recording with his signature guitar. When asked where he kept the equipment, he explained that they were kept in such a place that in an apocalypse they would still be safe:
“They’re very much locked down and safe in a way that if the world ended, they would still be okay. So we pulled them out, got them all set up, and got it ready to go.”
What’s The Real Name Of Eddie’s Signature Guitar?
Since the beginning of his career, Eddie Van Halen had used the same red Stratocaster with black and white stripes. The guitar had many different names among the fans such as Frankenstein and Frankenstrat. However, Eddie never made the guitar’s name clear.
During the same interview, Wolfgang was asked about the official name of the guitar. He revealed:
“Officially on the case it says Frankenstein.”
He did also say that his father wasn’t really strict about the name either:
“But people call it whatever they want and dad never even really had a name for it. That’s just what people called it. But officially, on the case, for the nerds that really wanna know, it says Frankenstein.”
As per the EVH brand, Van Halen didn’t actually come up with the name for the guitar himself. Instead, as EVH mentions in the guitar’s bio, it was his fans who gave it the name. To Eddie, it was just his ‘baby.’
That being said, Van Halen eventually embraced the nickname and always called it Frankenstein, not Frankenstrat.
