Wolfgang Van Halen joined Mr. Bungle’s Saturday show (June 22) at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium. They played a cover of Van Halen’s ‘Loss Of Control.’
The band posted a video of the performance on Instagram and wrote:
“Had a special guest join us for ‘Loss Of Control’ today. Thanks, Wolfgang Van Halen!”
Wolfgang replied in the comments:
“Thanks for having me, dudes!”
Wolfgang Avoids Covering Van Halen
WVH avoided playing Van Halen on stage for years to establish himself as a separate musician from his father, Eddie Van Halen. Still, he performed three of the band’s songs at the Taylor Hawkins tribute in 2022. The singer told the ‘Talk Is Jericho’ podcast last year:
“It was wonderful. It was the exception where it was, like, ‘This would be the time to do it.’ Taylor was such a huge fan and to get my own satisfaction by doing a direct Van Halen tribute for Dad, it felt like the right thing to do in that moment. I’m really proud of it.”
His words went on:
“I’m happy to be able to prove myself. The important key distinction is that I’m not doing what my dad did, I’m my own person, I’m my own musician… It’s why I don’t play any Van Halen music or have a plan to play Van Halen music during my sets.”
The Singer’s Touring Plans
Wolfgang’s latest album, ‘Mammoth II,’ was released in 2023. He started a tour to promote the record in February 2024 and is currently touring Europe before heading to the US in mid-July.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bungle is getting ready to wrap up their ongoing tour with a final show at Hellfest on June 29. The band hasn’t released a new album since 2020’s ‘The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo.’
