In a new conversation with Sakis Fragos of Rock Hard Greece, Wolf Hoffman talked about what Peter Baltes said about Accept’s sound.
Baltes felt like the band’s albums started sounding alike towards the end of his time with the band. Hoffman reacted to these comments, explaining:
“Let me say one thing about all this. Have you ever heard an ex-member of any band say anything other than that? Have you ever heard anybody who has left the band not badmouthing the other band? Have you ever heard him say anything positive about the times that they’ve spent together? No. It’s normal. They leave the band and they start [badmouthing their former bandmates]. So I’m not gonna comment on that.”
Hoffman Doesn’t Know Why Baltes Wanted To Leave
After being with Accept for 42 years, Baltes left the band in November 2018. In 2023, Baltes joined U.D.O. and Dirkschneider and reunited with his former Accept bandmate, Udo Dirkschneider. Hoffman reflected on Peter’s departure last year:
“Sadly, there’s hardly any contact, which I regret very much but it seems to be the case. Every time anybody leaves the band, it’s usually, as much as I regret it, that there’s hardly ever any contact anymore, which I think is pretty sad. I wish we could just stay in touch and stay friends, but I don’t know. He’s been very reclusive lately, so I think he just needs the time to get away from it all. I think that was his idea, maybe, but I don’t know.”
The guitarist also mentioned he couldn’t speak for Peter’s reasons. He wished Baltes had given them a heads-up before leaving:
“I wish he had. I don’t know. You have to ask him.”
In a previous interview, Baltes explained that he wasn’t happy in the band anymore and wanted to enjoy his life without doing things he didn’t like.
