Kelly Marcel makes her directorial debut with this month’s Venom: The Last Dance, and the writer and filmmaker has recently been rumored to be on TheShockNews of directors being eyed to take the helm of the next James Bond movie. Now, speaking with THR, Marcel has revealed if there was any truth to these rumors, and how she may have snuck some 007 hints into the latest Venom outing on the sly.
“(Laughs.) Yeah, that’s an extraordinary list to be on. I was flabbergasted. There’s never been a female Bond director, and of course, when you see something like that, it’s just incredibly humbling. So I’m grateful to be mentioned alongside any of those brilliant, brilliant directors. [Writer’s Note: The rumored list is as follows: Marcel, Edward Berger, David Michod, Yann Demange and Bart Layton.]”
Of course, Venom star Tom Hardy has long been a fan-favorite for the role of James Bond, and while we await an official announcement regarding which actor will be chosen to play the iconic spy, Venom 3 finds Hardy cutting a crowd-pleasingly Bond-like figure after slipping into a tuxedo. So, was Marcel hinting at something?
“(Laughs.) Well, there’s always been these rumors about him playing James Bond, so I may have been showing what Tom Hardy’s James Bond might look like.”
Venom Star Tom Hardy Has Long Been a James Bond Favorite
Tom Hardy has been one of the bookies’ favorites for the role of James Bond for some time, and while it’s sadly unlikely that the Oscar-nominated actor will ever wield a licence to kill, fans have reason to be excited nonetheless. Other favorites include the likes of Kraven the Hunter and Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Gladiator 2 actor Paul Mescal, and Snowfall star Damson Idris. New research, however, gives the numner one spot to an old favorite, with Man of Steel and The Witcher star Henry Cavill now leading “Google searches, articles, article engagement and Reddit mentions for 31 potential actors” and thus making him a strong contender.
As for who will helm the reboot, Eon is now reportedly meeting with potential directors, with the likes of Academy Award-winning Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front), Australian filmmaker David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, The Rover), Bart Layton (The Imposter, American Animals), and Yann Demange (’71, Top Boy) on TheShockNews alongside Kelly Marcel.
