In the metal scene, it might seem easy to hate pop singers or pop music in general. However, this doesn’t seem like the case when it comes to Billie Eilish.
Eilish has been getting more and more attention on rock and metal websites and social media accounts. She was seen headbanging to Knocked Loose at Coachella, and there were even rumors of her collaborating with Bring Me The Horizon.
Though the singer herself is not familiar with some iconic rockers, such as Eddie Van Halen, she was seen a few times sharing metal songs on her Instagram stories. One of her stories included Darkest Hour’s 2007 track ‘Demon(s).’ In another, she was in a car rocking out to It Dies Today.
We’re not entirely sure if she is just using rock and metal stuff to get more fans and likes on social media, but it’s safe to say there is definitely something about her that’s got metalheads talking.
In her defense of the Van Halen incident, Eilish was 13 when the band’s last performance took place on October 4, 2015. Fair enough.
Rockers Love Eilish’s Music
Throughout her career, Eilish was praised by rock musicians.
Names like Kiss’ Paul Stanley, Evanescence’s Amy Lee, and Paramore’s Hayley Williams all shared their thoughts on the pop musician sometime during their careers, and they all have a common ground: They all love Eilish’s music.
Stanley’s love for Eilish comes from ‘a real person singing something’ rather than only using electronics to make music. The Kiss rocker also says it’s important to listen to more than one genre:
“What’s great about Billie Eilish? You listen, because you go, ‘This is a real person singing something. [It’s like] when you heard Otis Redding singing Try a Little Tenderness or Respect, there’s a person singing, and you went, ‘More, more, tell me. So that’s what makes music great.’ The more you love variety, the more exciting things are.”
Eilish changed her musical style with her 2019 album, ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ to a more dark-pop vibe. As it appears, that’s what Amy Lee loved about her:
“I really do love good pop — like good, dark pop. So, with Billie Eilish, even more than her style, which is very dark, what I really love about her is just her authenticity. She’s just being completely herself. I see a lot of things in her that remind me of myself, especially when I was younger.”
She has even gotten the thumbs up from big names like Rob Zombie and Type-O Negative for wearing a custom shirt with their photos on it she rocked in 2019. Also in 2022, she wore a shirt on stage that looked like a patch jacket with various underground metal and punk bands, plus Motörhead and Misfits.
And with that, Billie Eilish seems like she will keep being a matter of discussion among metalheads and rock fans.
