is one of a kind when it comes to her status as an iconic, glory-note-hitting vocal sensation. But growing up, the five-time Grammy winner was actually one of 14. Children, that is.
Yes, the Canadian performer, who recently sat down with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb and discussed her battle with the rare neurological condition , grew up in a large household, surrounded by love, tunes and a lot of brothers and sisters.
Who are they? Read on to get to know .
Celine is the baby of the family
Born March 30, 1968, in the Canadian province of Quebec, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer was the 14th and final child for parents Thérèse and Adhémar Dion.
Between the years 1946 and 1962, the couple welcomed all of their other children.
In birth order, they are: Denise Dion, Clement Dion, Claudette Dion, Liette Dion, Michel Dion, Louise Dion, Jacques Dion, Daniel Dion, Ghislaine Dion, Linda Dion, Manon Dion, Paul Dion and Pauline Dion.
Music runs in the family
It’s no surprise that Celine Dion was drawn to a career in music. First, her name came from the titular character in a 1966 song by French hitmaker Hugues Aufray. And in addition to her natural vocal talent, her parents were passionate music lovers who passed on an appreciation for the art form to Celine — and to all of their children.
Growing up, the Dion siblings performed together at their parents’ piano bar.
Some of the family also went on to record their own solo albums, just as their little sister has done — including Claudette, Michel, Jacques and Liette. Though none have come close to reaching Céline’s massive musical success.
Twins run in the family, too
On October 23, 2010, after several rounds of in vitro fertilization, Celine and husband René Angélil celebrated the arrival of twins. But their sons, Eddy and Nelson, weren’t the first fraternal twins to arrive in the Dion family.
Celine’s parents also had a set of twins, Paul and Paulette Dion, who are six years older than their famous sister.
Celine takes care of her siblings
According to Claudette Dion, during a very lean time in her life, her youngest sister and Angélil gave her enough money to change her fortune. And their help didn’t stop there. In a 2017 interview with , Claudette revealed that the couple gave each one of the Dion siblings $100,000.
Celine has also employed her siblings from time to time, with sister Manon Dion serving as both hairstylist and personal assistant over the years, and brother Michel Dion once having worked as her assistant tour manager.
And they take care of her
Big brother Michel Dion has done much to aid Celine throughout her career, too, including helping to get that career off the ground in the first place.
It was Michel who sent her first song — “Ce n’était qu’un rêve,” a ballad co-written by another brother, Jacques — off to producer and manager Angélil. That act ultimately led to her auditioning for her future husband when she was just 12 years old.
Celine lost one sibling
In 2016, the Dion family suffered an enormous loss. Celine’s older brother, Daniel Dion, the eighth child of Thérèse and Adhémar Dion, , following a lengthy battle with cancer.
“He was ready, and he is no longer in pain,” sister Claudette Dion told at the time.
But for the family’s youngest sibling, Daniel’s death was a tragedy that compounded another, as it came just two days after Celine’s husband, Angélil,
