Attention Ed Sheeran fans: Thor has left the building. MCU actor Chris Hemsworth surprised the crowd at an Ed Sheeran concert on Saturday in Romania, taking the stage with the Grammy-winning singer to play drums for a song as part of filming the new season of his series Limitless with Chris Hemsworth. To the delight of 70,000 fans in attendance, Hemsworth accompanied Sheeran as he performed “Thinking Out Loud” at The National Arena in Bucharest, according to a report by Deadline.
The performance was caught on video to promote the second season of Limitless, which premieres on Disney+ in 2025. It was posted to the Instagram accounts of both Sheeran and Hemsworth, as well as NatGeo TV.
Sheeran is currently in the midst of the European leg of his +–=÷× Tour, pronounced “The Mathematics Tour,” and in the video, Sheeran says that Hemsworth had contacted him about appearing on stage, after reading about the psychological benefits of learning how to play musical instruments. Hemsworth learned how to play the drums, and played them for the first time on stage with Sheeran. Afterward, Sheeran gave Hemsworth a drummer-themed trophy as a memento.
Co-created by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, Limitless is a docuseries that explores the potential of humanity’s existence. During the six episodes of the first season, Hemsworth traveled the world to find a path for better living, and challenged his own mental and physical limits in the process.
While Sheeran is known worldwide for his music, he has ventured into acting at times. He has played himself in a number of films, and in 2013, appeared in the uncredited role of The Balladeer in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. He played a soldier in a 2017 episode of Game of Thrones, and his other roles include Peter Rabbit, Home and Away, The Bastard Executioner, and The Simpsons. He even played an uncredited Stormtrooper in the Star Wars films The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker.
Chris Hemsworth Has Stayed Busy Post-Endgame
Since the release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Hemsworth has kept his schedule full, including the Limitless series. He immediately jumped onto another film franchise with Men in Black: International in 2019. That film flopped, however, killing any chances of a sequel. Hemsworth, however, was already on to other projects. He starred in two Extraction films for Netflix, and returned to the MCU for Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022.
Earlier this year, he starred in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which did not perform well at the box office, despite solid reviews. He is providing the voice for Optimus Prime in the animated prequel Transformers One, opening in theaters in September. He was set to play Hulk Hogan in a biopic about the wrestler’s life, but that project recently hit a major stumbling block with the loss of director Todd Phillips. Hemsworth could, however, be joining another major franchise, as he has reportedly signed on to play the lead in Paramount’s Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover film.
