Blackie Lawless’ Words On The Tour
The band’s frontman Blackie Lawless has recovered from surgery for two herniated discs and a broken vertebra that caused the cancellation of the band’s 2023 tour. Their gold-selling debut album, released on August 17, 1984, includes hits like ‘I Wanna Be Somebody,’ ‘On Your Knees,’ and ‘The Flame.’ Lawless noted in a press release about the tour:
“It was an angry record made by an angry band. It was a record that not only reflected the attitude of the band members who made it, but also a record that reflected its time.”
Before the release of ‘W.A.S.P.,’ the Parents Music Resource Center put ‘Animal (F*ck Like a Beast)’ on their ‘Filthy 15’ list of ‘morally objectionable’ songs. This led Capitol Records to remove the track from the album. It was restored in a 1998 reissue. Due to his religious beliefs, Lawless took ‘Animal’ out of their set lists in 2006 but brought it back for their 40th anniversary tour in 2022.
