Action movie superstar Vin Diesel has shared an intense new look at the long-awaited sci-fi sequel, Riddick 4. Titled Riddick: Furya, the follow-up will see Diesel return as the Pitch Black antihero Richard B. Riddick, with Diesel taking to Instagram to share an image from filming. An image which finds him looking furiously into the sky in a way that suggests some bad guys are going to get what’s coming to them. You can check out the new look at Riddick: Furya below.
Diesel has been teasing the arrival of a fourth Riddick outing for quite some time, with the Fast and Furious star set to reunite with director David Twohy. While much of the sequel remains as mysterious as its titular antihero, the filmmaker has previously revealed that Riddick 4 will finally explore more of the character’s past.
“Our legion fans have demanded it for years, and now we’re finally ready to honor their call to action with Riddick: Furya. My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 fruitful years, as together we’ve created three movies, two video games, an anime production, and motion comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see a return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we finally get to explore Riddick’s genesis.”
Riddick 4 Will Explore the Mysterious Past of the Beloved Antihero
First introduced more than two decades ago in the acclaimed sci-fi horror outing Pitch Black way back in 2000, Riddick remains one of Vin Diesel’s most beloved characters and franchises. The first movie tells the terrifyingly isolated story of a crew whose spaceship crash lands on a planet inhabited by nocturnal monsters. And the sun is about to disappear in an eclipse. Making things much grander, the 2004 sequel The Chronicles of Riddick vastly expands the lore of both the character and the universe he inhabits, with Riddick battling the Necromongers, an empire hellbent on obliterating humanity.
Unlike its predecessor, the follow-up was met with largely negative reviews as well as being a disappointment at the box office. The last audiences saw of Riddick was in 2013’s Riddick, which learned from The Chronicles of Riddick’s mistakes and took cues from Pitch Black to tell another smaller, more isolated story. This time, the character finds himself once again stranded on a merciless planet and evading a lethal group of mercenaries who are out to kill him.
