In a recent chat with Eddie Trunk, Michael Anthony reflected on whether David Lee Roth and Alex Van Halen might appear on Sammy Hagar’s Best of All Worlds Tour.
“Not from the Van Halen camp, no,” the bassist said about the possibility. “Unfortunately. Obviously, Sammy and I were hoping that Alex at some point might get in touch with us. Sammy had been trying to get Alex. Everybody has read. Sammy has been saying it in interviews. But unfortunately, no. Not anybody from the Van Halen camp.”
It’s known from their previous statements that both Anthony and Hagar tried to reach out to Alex for the tour to honor Van Halen but the drummer didn’t respond to them. “No, I haven’t,” Michael told Trunk about whether he talked to Alex since the tour with Sammy started.
The rocker added, “In fact, the last time I tried to get a hold of Alex, I tried to get a hold of him on his birthday in May, and I did not hear back from him. So, I don’t know.”
Anthony noted the following about his relationship with Alex, “I didn’t wanna push it or keep trying to get a hold of him or whatever. I figured he knew that I tried to get ahold of him, I think, so I just kind of left it at that. God, at this point, I’m just waiting for his book to come out, so I can read that.”
“Alex, basically, like myself — I’ve never been one to wanna talk smack about the band or whatever, ’cause I choose to remember all the good stuff and all the good times that we had,” Anthony shared what he expects from Alex’s upcoming book, ‘Brothers.’
He also commented, “And I’m hoping, and I’m pretty sure that that’s probably what the book will focus on and not any dirt or whatever, ’cause Alex really was never that kind of guy anyway.”
Best of All Worlds Tour will visit Japan in September. They will have three shows from September 20 to September 23.
