Universal Music has partnered with AI start-up Soundlabs to create ‘official ultra-high fidelity vocal models’ for artists. These models use the artists’ voice data to train AI systems. But could this be a problem for Bon Jovi and their next albums?
What The Deal Offers
The deal ensures artists own the results and have full say in how their AI vocals are used. This prevents unauthorized albums from being made under an artist’s name, like Bon Jovi, without their permission.
Universal Music said of the deal in a press release:
“It empowers artists and producers to explore bleeding-edge vocal transformations, including voice-to-voice, voice-to-instrument, speech-to-singing, language transposition, and a myriad of previously impossible vocal transformations. Together, UMG and SoundLabs are collaborating to allow UMG artists to create custom vocal models that will be available for their exclusive creative use cases, and not available to the general public.”
How The Technology Would Affect Bon Jovi
For example, Jon Bon Jovi could potentially use AI-generated vocals for a new album without actually recording his voice. However, this new deal might cause controversy about the authenticity of the rocker’s new album.
The frontman has been dealing with surgery and vocal issues, and he even said his voice has been broken. And if not everything goes as planned for the frontman, this technology might take over at any minute.
Even though Jon can take a rest while his voice is being recorded even without his contribution, it’s not clear if this would be mentioned in the following albums.
The band’s latest album ‘Forever’ was released on June 7, and within a few years, we might hear Jon Bon Jovi for the first time without his vocal contributions to the album. The rocker’s comments are yet to come.
