Embankment Films is setting out to make a mountain out of a molehill with their upcoming horror film. The production company that brought audiences Florian Zeller’s The Father and The Son shared their excitement about their upcoming project, and more importantly, the actors that will lead viewers into their depraved new world. According to Deadline, Embankment Films announced a new horror film titled Molepeople, starring Anthony Ramos (Ironheart, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom, Secret Invasion).
In their announcement, Embankment Films described the plot as the story of “one man’s nightmarish descent into the abandoned tunnels beneath the streets of New York City, where a twisted society lurks.” Host and The Boogeyman director Rob Savage is helming the movie, based on an original script from Succession’s Nathan Elston. The powerhouse acting pair of Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Ramos and Emmy winner Mendelsohn will be audiences’ guides in the film’s exploration of what lies beneath the city. Together they are sure to impress audiences with their unparalleled talents.
Other producers of the mole movie include Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures, which brought viewers Woman Of The Hour, and Rough House Pictures, which produced the modern Halloween trilogy. International sales will be handled by Embankment Films and CAA Media Finance. Range and WME together will represent North American rights at the American Film Market next week.
“There’s something uniquely terrifying about urban isolation – the idea that in one of the world’s busiest cities, you could vanish without a trace. With Anthony Ramos – who’s quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most commanding leading men – alongside the legendary Ben Mendelsohn, we have the perfect contemporary combination to bring this nightmare to life.” – Raphael Margules and J.D Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures via Deadline

Mendelsohn and Ramos’s Careers Have Prepared Them For This Molement
Mendelsohn has had a long career in acting, starting in 1987 with his break-out role in The Year My Voice Broke, and he hasn’t slowed down since. The Australian actor is most often cast as the villain, for good reason, since he has a knack for embodying the toxic, power-tripping leader. Some of his most widely known performances center him as the bad guy like in popular films such as Rogue One and Ready Player One. Audiences could assume that Mendelsohn’s character might be a part of the messed-up underbelly of NYC in the upcoming horror movie. However, Mendelsohn received high praise for his protagonist role in HBO’s The Outsider, so who knows which direction Savage will take his talents?
Outside select roles, Ramos is generally known for his musical talent, starring in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s adaptation of In The Heights and originating the double role of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Broadway hit Hamilton. Ramos is almost always cast as the good guy, but Molepeople could be his chance to take on the bad boy persona. With his announced involvement in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX horror series based on a graphic novel, Ramos is making his way into the horror genre. Ramos and Mendelsohn are an unlikely but exciting pair for the upcoming horror film.
