Speaking to ScreenRant, Glen Powell addressed the backlash to Twisters not featuring a kiss in its final scene. Originally, Twisters was meant to close with Tyler and Kate cementing their new relationship with a kiss. However, thanks to some expert advice from none other than Stephen Spielberg, the scene was cut. Powell revealed that he loves the backlash to the scene because, at the end of the day, it shows how much people care about the film. Powell explained:
“I’m taking it very personally! I’m sure you’ve seen the behind-the-scenes, where I did get to kiss Daisy Edgar-Jones, which really is all that counts. [Laughs] We had a great time, and I’m really proud of the movie.
I really think that even that [backlash] shows that people care, which is really great. I just love how excited people have gotten about that movie, and Daisy and I send each other the TikToks and the gifs. There’s so much funny stuff coming out of it. It’s fun. That’s what summer movies are about. It creates this conversation and cultural moment, and people dress up and do the thing. It’s been really awesome.
So, kiss or no kiss, everybody’s a winner.”
Twisters 2 Remains Unconfirmed, But Glen Powell’s Star Power Increases
There seems to be no escaping Glen Powell on the big screen. Following his supporting role in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell has begun making a name for himself as a bona-fide A-lister. 2023 and 2024 have been extremely strong years for the actor, as he dominated the box office with Anyone But You (co-starring Sydney Sweeney) and Twisters.
Glen Powell also made a name for himself in the world of streaming with his hit action comedy Hit Man (co-written by Powell and director Richard Linklater), which soared to the top of Netflix’s streaming charts upon release.
Powell is following up this string of successes with projects under some incredibly popular directors. Powell is set to star in John Lee Hancock’s upcoming movie Monsato, alongside Laura Dern and Anthony Mackie. Powell is following that up with a leading role in Edgar Wright’s long-awaited remake of The Running Man. Finally, the actor has been tapped to star in a new secret project from J.J. Abrams.
