When Colorado Buffaloes’ Travis Hunter got engaged with his girlfriend in February, little was known beyond the actual news. No one, even those in their close circle, including teammate Shedeur Sanders, had any inkling that the two-way superstar and his bride-to-be had already decided a wedding date.
Sanders heard the date earlier this week, when he hosted Hunter as a special guest on his 2Legendary podcast. Like a true-blooded friend, he immediately made the request:
“I feel some type of way, cause I ain’t know about that. When [were you] ever gonna ask me to be your best man?”
In response, Hunter gave Sanders a perplexed look, laughed, before declining the offer:
“Bruh what?! Haha, haha. no bro… you’re funny bro.”
Hunter did not inform Sanders’ audience who his best man would be. But he did drop other details about the wedding.
Who is Hunter marrying, and when?
Hunter is set to marry his girlfriend, Leanna Lenee. Their love story began in February 2022. Exactly two years on, in February this year, they took their journey to the next level.
Clearly, the second month of the year is an important landmark in their relationship. However, they aren’t marrying in February. Hunter revealed the two would get hitched in May 2025.
If Hunter had not been projected as a top-five NFL Draft pick, Lenee and him may have decided on a wedding date in February. But the wide receiver/cornerback has his work cut out preparing for the NFL draft early next year. So May was a logical choice.
“May 24th, next year. Right after rookie minicamp.”
Hunter told Sanders the wedding would take place in Chattanooga, Tennessee. That town was his fiance’s choice.
“It’s a good venue. She wanted to have a good venue. Enough [space] for everybody.”
Sanders and Hunter then discussed the hefty costs associated with weddings. When Sanders asked Hunter if he was “excited” about it, the Heisman contender replied on the affirmative, adding:
“I’m just ready to go eat, dance, do my thing. That’s it. Hang out with the guys. Hang out with the family.”
Before Hunter can shift his focus fully on the big day, Sanders and him have a mission to complete. Colorado improved to 7-2 by defeating Texas Tech 41-27 on Saturday. The victory, while Iowa State lost in their game, has put the Buffaloes in second place in the Big 12 standings.
If Colorado remain top-two in their conference, they will play for the Big-12 championship on Dec. 7. And if they win, they will likely secure a College Football Playoff spot.
However, before they could dream about fighting for a title, they have to successfully negotiate their remaining games. Next up for the Buffs are the Utah Utes on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 12:00 p.m. E.T.
