Tracii Guns recently retweeted a meme on X that questions Nikki Sixx’s role as a bassist for Mötley Crüe. This move could potentially stir controversy among the two musicians and fans.
The meme referred to Sixx’s allegedly ‘fake bass’ in the band’s tracks and showed a flash drive with the caption ‘Nikki Sixx signature bass.’ Guns’ comment on the post implied that he believed the rumors:
“I’m just the messenger.”
The Talks On The Matter Continue
The debate about whether Nikki Sixx actually plays the bass tracks for Mötley Crüe started after Mick Mars sued the band and claimed they did not play their instruments live during concerts.
Carmine Appice added to the allegations and named someone else as the real musician behind Sixx’s bass parts. He wrote on social media last year:
“I rest my case regarding Nikki Sixx… Carol Kaye.”
Mick Mars Stays Out Of The Debate
John Corabi also suggested that Sixx might be using backing tracks. He pointed out that modern recording technologies like Pro Tools allowed easy manipulation of music tracks.
On the other hand, Mick Mars chose not to address the matter in his December 2023 interview with Igor Miranda:
“I can’t comment on that.”
The guitarist still noted that what he ‘stated in my sworn statements is true.’
