Tracii Guns recently posted a video about Steven Seagal’s guitar playing on X and commented on his abilities in the caption.
He wrote above the clip that featured a few cuts from Seagal’s performances and interviews about his music, “Steven Seagal is a sh*t guitar player and a Russian asset. Claims he’s a blessed blues guitar player. Says he’s willing to die for Putin. Claims old blues players gave him the nickname ‘Mojo Priest.’ Thoughts? Watch this.”
Seagal started his career as an actor starring in films like ‘Above the Law’ and shows like ‘True Justice.’ He also ventured into music with his debut record, ‘Songs from the Crystal Cave,’ in 2004.
The artist played guitar and took on the vocals in the album that had a mix of pop, world, country, and blues music, featuring Tony Rebel, Lt. Stichie, Lady Saw, and Stevie Wonder for duets. As some tracks from it also appeared in his 2005 movie ‘Girl It’s Alright,’ the early release received mixed reviews though its mixture of styles was criticized.
Then came Seagal’s second album, ‘Mojo Priest,’ in 2006 and brought along a concert tour. This record scored worse than the previous one with AllMusic’s Thom Jurek rating it 1.5 stars out of 5 by saying the guitarist’s playing “rarely rises above bar band pedigree.”
Steven Seagal later focused more on his acting and made the headlines with his political opinions, supporting Vladimir Putin and securing Russian citizenship. But he hasn’t been under the spotlight for the last few years.
