Tom Morello isn’t sure about Rage Against the Machine’s future.
In a new conversation with Spin, the interviewer said RATM isn’t active right now, but Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk have often worked together over the years. When asked if he thinks that will happen again, Tom replied:
“I don’t know. Right now, I know Timmy’s got a great new band, 7D7D, that he’s psyched about. I couldn’t be happier on the road with the Freedom Fighter Orchestra and making this record. There’s nothing in the cards right now.”
RATM Is Done With Touring
Back in January, Wilk announced on Instagram that they wouldn’t be touring and performing live anymore. It was the third time the group had taken this decision. The drummer wrote the following in his post after the canceled RATM shows:
“I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new dates for all the canceled RATM shows. I don’t want to string people or myself along any further. So, while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom, and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”
Tim Commerford Is Unsure If RATM Will Break Up Forever
Still, later in February, Commerford chatted with Rolling Stone and talked about his role in the decision-making process of the band:
“I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player. I just wait for someone to tell me what to do. Brad said what he said, but he’s one step above me. He’s in the No. 3 spot. I am the low man on the totem pole. That’s all I can tell you. I’m the bass player. The bass players always are the last people to find out about sh*t like that.”
The band didn’t make an official statement after Wilk’s claims. So, this adds to the confusion and leaves people guessing about their future. RATM previously faced internal conflicts, leading to Zack de la Rocha’s departure in 2000. The remaining members formed Audioslave with Chris Cornell until 2007. They reunited in 2007, toured until 2011, split again, and announced a comeback tour in 2020.
