Oscar nominee Tom Hardy has now confirmed some disappointing news about his upcoming Sony/Marvel outing, Venom: The Last Dance. The actor took to Instagram to celebrate the impending release of the Sony Spider-Man Universe sequel, and revealed that this will be the final time that he plays the dual roles of Eddie Brock and Venom on the big screen.
Hardy took the time to thank the fans for their support throughout the franchise, which first began back in 2018 with the hugely successful Venom. Check out what Hardy had to say about his last dance with Venom below.
“That’s all she wrote for me and the big guy we promise to make this the best of them all. We’ve loved making these. Thankyou for your ️and support – come join us for the Last Dance. For those of you that enjoy a good time from all of us in the team – Let us entertain you.”
Prior to these comments, while it had been revealed that Venom: The Last Dance would be the final movie in the trilogy, there was speculation that Hardy might return to the role for appearances in either the Sony Spider-Man Universe or the MCU. Following this announcement, it doesn’t sound like he will be back for either. Which is sure to disappoint some fans.
Venom: The Last Dance Is Due To Hit Theaters on October 25
Sony’s peculiar Spider-Man spinoff Universe, which follows various Spider-Man villains in a world without the iconic web-slinger himself, first began with Venom back in 2018. Introducing Tom Hardy as the Marvel villain/antihero, the character starts off as a guerrilla journalist before being unwittingly merged with a symbiotic alien with lethal abilities. Despite mixed reviews, the first Venom outing was a huge success for the studio, earning $856 million worldwide at the box office.
With such success comes sequels, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage released in 2021. Directed by Andy Serkis, the follow-up reunites audiences with Brock and his extra-terrestrial bestie as the journalist attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson), who becomes the host of an alien symbiote named Carnage. Venom: Let There Be Carnage was also met with decidedly mixed reviews from critics, but was again loved by audiences, grossing just over $506 million worldwide.
The third and final movie, Venom: The Last Dance, is already on track for similar success, and is currently forecast to make $80 million-$120 million domestically over its opening weekend. Directed by Kelly Marcel, the third outing stars Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham. You can check out the official synopsis below.
“In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”
Venom: The Last Dance
is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 25, 2024.
