Is Aerosmith coming to an end?
In a new interview with Charlie Kendall’s Metalshop, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton admitted being unsure about the future for him and the band after they announced they were retiring.
“First let me start by clearing up some information on Steven’s injury,” he started explaining. “We were playing the third show of our ‘Peace Out’ tour last September. During the third song of the set Steven had a fall that resulted in a fracture to his larynx. Somehow he finished the show. Don’t ask me how. It’s a testament to his strength and desire to give the people what they came for. It wasn’t a case of him blowing his throat out by doing something wrong.”
“He has been healing well and working his ass off to get ready to go back out on the road but it just wasn’t possible,” Hamilton praised his bandmate. “We don’t know what the future holds but it won’t include touring.”
He also revealed whether or not there had been talks about a new singer. “There’s been no talk at all about going on the road with another singer,” Hamilton said. “I can’t imagine it.”
The band announced the bad news on August 2. They said in their statement that Tyler’s voice hasn’t fully recovered and that they had to make the ‘heartbreaking’ choice to stop performing.
Before Tyler’s decision to retire, his bandmate Steve Perry revealed that the frontman might have a few tracks ready to release
“There’s definitely a possibility. I know that Steven has got some stuff in his back pocket, so we’ll see. I’m currently writing stuff for a new Hollywood Vampires album but after that… What we are definitely doing is remixing some of the early Aerosmith stuff and finding some interesting outtakes, so it’ll be fun to look at that stuff.”
So unless the vocal parts of the new songs are ready, there isn’t much of a chance that Aerosmith would record and release new material.
