At a recent concert in Paraguay, Tom DeLonge of Blink-182 faced a sudden health scare, suffering from heat stroke on stage. Following the event, DeLonge took to Instagram to share a snapshot from the night, commenting on his unexpected trouble:
“This was about 1 minute before heat stroke hit. Fell to my knees, everything went blurry, then wobbled to the side of the stage and vomited for a bit. Super fun.”
The incident occurred during a live performance at the Parque Olímpico in Luque on March 19. The band was in the middle of playing ‘More Than You Know,’ their eleventh song of the night, when the singer was suddenly overcome by the heat.
He Kept Performing
DeLonge had to leave the stage for a short while to recover, leaving bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker to continue the show in his absence. Fortunately, he was able to regain his composure and rejoin the performance to help close out the night.
The frontman reflected on the experience, writing:
“Mark and Travis made up for the lost time… Man, this was not something I’ve ever felt before. 95 degrees at 11 p.m. on stage. But… I made it back and finished the show. ’Cause that’s what Navy Seals do…”
The Show Was Almost Canceled
In a different comment, Hoppus noted that there was a moment when they almost stopped the show, with paramedics ready to take his bandmate to the hospital. But on his suggestion, Blink-182 performed ‘Man Overboard,’ which helped lighten DeLonge’s load a bit.
Despite the setback, DeLonge was not only able to return to the stage but also, along with the rest of the band, managed to perform an additional 16 songs, ending with an encore of ‘One More Time.’
The Band’s Ongoing Tour
The incident took place in the middle of the band’s tour through South America and Mexico, which is set to conclude on April 6 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.
The band is scheduled to perform in the U.S. from June through mid-August, followed by a stint in the U.K. at the end of the month.
