Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge has recently responded to the criticism of his band and their performance.
The frontman shared a screenshot of a recently released article about the band’s performance at the Lollapalooza on Instagram. The title of the article said:
“Blink-182’s performance distastefully closes Lollapalooza.”
The rocker mentioned a part from the article and wrote in the caption:
“Hahaahahaha. ‘Why are two men who have wives and kids making jokes about sleeping with each other’s mothers?’ Oh my God, I’m dying hahaha f*ck, I love this band.”
Hoppus’ wife Skye Hoppus commented:
“Dying. Love this so much.”
What The Article Said
The Daily Illini posted a review of the performance. While it overall explained the last day of the festival and the band’s performance, the writer didn’t find the performance ‘worthy enough’ to close out Lollapalooza.
The writer of the article labeled the pop-punk band as ‘cringe’ and ‘repulsive’:
“Cringe-worthy and repulsive, Blink-182’s headlining performance was unworthy of closing out this year’s Lollapalooza. The set — though filled with lively songs and an engaged audience — was filled with all-too-memorable, odious remarks from the two lead singers, Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge.”
The part DeLonge mentioned in his social media post read:
“Why are two older men, aged 52 and 48, respectively, who have wives and children, making jokes about sleeping with the other’s mother? The crude humor may have landed with some, but to continue throughout the hour-and-fifteen-minute long set was a bit much.”
The review also mentioned that during the show, Mark Hoppus referred to Chicago’s famous Bean landmark as ‘a statue of your mom’s clitoris.’ The writer seemed shocked that the audience actually found the joke funny.
