Sadie Sink, the actor who gave life to Max in the last three seasons of Stranger Things, has provided an update about the character’s fate in the upcoming fifth and final season of one of Netflix’s most important shows. Even though we saw Max being left blind and enter a deep coma in the season finale with no signs of her waking up from an eternal slumber, Sink is participating in Season 5’s production. Actively.
They love having me run. That’s all I’ll say.
Per Sink’s own words in a Variety interview, her character is sure to show up in the show’s final season, which will premiere sometime in 2025. Though Max appears to be in a coma, this doesn’t mean only a few scenes have been shot: “I’ve been working all of last week, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I forgot how hard this show is. You’re a team player here. It’s not about me. It’s not about anyone. It’s about the show and what’s best for it.”
Months ago, Sink’s message was optimistic, but different. She told Movieweb that Max’s fate was uncertain, but the world of Stranger Things is filled with miracles, teasing:
I mean, you saw how it ended in season four, so I cannot answer that. But it would be a miracle if she did so — and miracles have happened on the show. So I guess we’ll have to see.
It didn’t help put out the fire of doubt as it didn’t hint at her active participation beyond being a secondary character in the background. However, Matt and Ross Duffer, creators of the show, have also come out to confirm her involvement in the show’s conclusion. “She’s going to play a part in the season,” said Matt, to which Ross replied, “But we don’t want to reveal how that’s possible.” Matt responds, saying, “Right because she’s in a coma.”
He continued talking about Sink’s performance skills: “I think she’s grown just more confident as an actor and in her choices. We did film a scene the other day with her that was just absolutely heartbreaking. I don’t know how she hits those notes.”

Stranger Things Season 5: What We Know So Far
There aren’t many details to be confirmed about Season 5 of Stranger Things. All we know is that it will be the final entry in the show, and it will serve as a conclusion to the nostalgia-ridden behemoth created by the Duffer brothers and inspired by every single piece of ’80s pop culture. After delays and strikes, the final season started production earlier this year and will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2025.

Stranger Things Creators To Produce ‘Terrifying’ New Horror Series for Netflix
Matt and Ross Duffer are behind the new series from an up and coming filmmaker.
Per the multiple statements by its cast, it’s safe to say the final season will be “insane” and “huge.”It will also see the introduction of new characters and probable cameos, but nothing has been confirmed about who they will play in the final eight-episode season. Maya Hawke, who plays Robin in the show, was more informative about the scope of the final season. Per the production value, she claimed, “We’re making, basically, eight movies.” That teases the idea that every episode could have a running time resembling that of a feature film. Season 4’s finale had a duration of 144 minutes, so it seems we can expect more of that in the future.
What you can be sure about is that Netflix will probably cut the final season into two large chunks, just like they have done with popular signature shows like Cobra Kai and Bridgerton. What’s yet to be determined is if they will release multiple episodes in one day or if it will be a weekly episode kind of release. All speculations and no confirmations, but today you can rest assured that Max will be back, and you will possibly hear the notes of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” blasting out of her headphones again. Could this be how she wakes up? We’ll have to wait and see…
Seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix, and Season 5 will premiere exclusively on the streamer in 2025.
