Achieving the perfect work-life balance is no easy thing when you’re a member of the never-ending rat race, but Severance is going to try, as the first trailer for Season 2 of the critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller series has now been unveiled by Apple TV+. From Ben Stiller and creator Dan Erickson, Severance Season 2 is all set to begin streaming on the platform on January 17, 2025, and while details of what’s to come from our return to Lumon Industries remain largely a mystery, we can finally have our first peek behind the curtain.
You can check out the newly released trailer for Severance Season 2 below.
Starring Adam Scott alongside Academy-Award winner Patricia Arquette, Emmy-winner John Turturro, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus and Academy Award winner Christopher Walken, Severance takes a twisted look at the lives of the employees of the bio-tech corporation Lumon Industries. The series centers on Scott’s Mark Scout, the leader of a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. This experiment in finding the perfect ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark gradually finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery, forcing him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.
Since debuting back in 2022, Severance has been met with critical acclaim. The series now stands at an impressive 97% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, and received a total of 14 nominations at the 74th Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and nods for Adam Scott, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette. And no doubt both critics and audiences cannot wait to clock back in.
Severance Season 2 Will Delve Into the Unknown
Severance Season 2 started filming back in October 2022, but was brought to a halt by the writers’ and actor’s strikes. Further delays were reportedly caused by creative disputes, though this could be mere Hollywood gossip. Regardless, Season 2 will be with us next year, and returning star John Turturro has teased what we can expect. He revealed to Variety last month:
“I think it’ll be a really interesting second season. We are delving into the unknown that the audience is waiting for, and then doing it incrementally.”

Severance Creator Reveals How Many More Seasons Are ‘Mapped Out’
With the second season of Apple TV+’s sci-fi workplace drama still in the works, show creators are already teasing a mapped-out future for Severance.
Ben Stiller, meanwhile, is hopeful that Severance Season 2 can live up to both the legacy already carved out by the first series, and audiences’ lofty expectations.
“It’s an interesting experience. I’ve never been through it before — a second season of anything. Everything I’ve done has gotten canceled back in the day. But, you know, I feel like there’s an expectation that the audience has — that they should have if they love something. For us, it’s just been the process of trying to live up to our expectation of what we think the show should be and commit to that.
It’s taken a long time. I hope it’s good. You know, people are just wanting something to live up to what they’ve experienced and have it hopefully not let them down. And so, I don’t know, All you all you can do is try to do what you think is good.”
