For more than two decades now, Jordana Brewster has been an integral part of The Fast and the Furious franchise, portraying the role of Mia Toretto in every single film since its inception in 2001. Along with the core cast, she’s traveled around the world to exotic locales, helping build the iconic series into what it is today: a global phenomenon that’s Universal’s most successful franchise to date; one that’s generated more than $7 billion dollars in revenue. Yet despite its continued success, the next film in the main saga is apparently slated to be the last, and if that’s true, Brewster says she wants things to go out the way they started.
Speaking with MovieWeb to promote the upcoming release of her latest film, Cellar Door, we touched on The Fast and the Furious, and its potential ending. Star Vin Diesel revealed earlier this year that Fast 11 would bring the saga to a close, something that’s hard to imagine considering 2023’s Fast X took in more than $700 million in receipts, proving that the franchise still has some blood left in it. Brewster told us that if this is indeed the end of the line, she hopes the final movie takes things back to where they all began.

Is It Too Late for the Fast Franchise to Go Back to Basics?
The Fast & Furious franchise has gone from street racing to superhero antics over its long run which could make it difficult to go back to basics.
I hope with the last one – if it is the last one – that it kind of goes back to the first one’s roots, because that one, that and five are my favorite, so I would love for it to have that same feel.
Her comments echo those of Diesel himself, who has said in the past that Fast 11 will be an “American road trip” movie, as well as comments given by star Tyrese Gibson, who said the fans deserve a final entry that takes things “back to basics.” Just how they’re going to accomplish that is anyone’s guess at this point when you consider the explosive ending to Fast X, but word has it that a spin-off focusing on Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes and Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs will help bridge that gap before we get to the next film in the main saga. What we do know is that the script has yet to be finalized, but shooting is expected to get underway early next year, with a 2026 release date in mind.
Jordana Brewster Calls Fast & Furious ‘Part of the Cultural Fabric’
It’s hard to imagine a world without Fast & Furious tearing up the box office every couple of years, especially when you keep in mind just how important it’s become to people. What began 22 years ago is now part of pop culture, and has spawned everything from short films and animated TV shows, to video games and action figures. It seems no matter where you go, at least one person somewhere has heard of the franchise, which has made the fan base itself feel like a family, a theme that’s permeated through the series since the beginning.
For Brewster, she said that’s one of the most “gratifying” aspects of being a part of something so large that it’s become “a part of the cultural fabric.” Still, despite all of her successes, she remains humble, knowing that without the fans, none of it would have ever been possible.
“The most gratifying is the community that it’s engendered. I was in New Zealand filming Heart Eyes, and people would come up to me, and they were like, ‘Mia!’ They felt so familiar, and that’s beautiful that people see themselves in the film, or relate to different characters. It’s just been a part of the cultural fabric, so to be able to have that as an actor is really special, and I don’t take that for granted.”
While it remains to be seen if this really is the end of the road for Dom, Mia, and the rest of the family, one thing’s for sure: Fast & Furious will live on long after its cinematic conclusion. Here’s hoping that Brewster, Gibson, and Diesel get the ending they want because, at this point, they’ve more than earned it.
