In the wake of the recent news that a third movie is now in the works, cult action movie classic The Boondock Saints is returning to theaters in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The event will be hosted by Iconic Events, who will re-release the unrated director’s cut of the action classic in 500 theaters nationwide on Thursday, November 7, and Sunday, November 10. Not only that, the event will also feature a Q&A session with writer and director Troy Duffy, who is expected to reveal further details about The Boondock Saints 3 and other planned projects. Duffy released a statement regarding the re-release, thanking the fanbase who have remained so passionate and dedicated for all these years.
“When my film was blacklisted by Hollywood, the whole industry wrote it off. But then something spectacular happened. A silent explosion on home video occurred and people found it, loved it and turned Boondock Saints into the highest-grossing cult classic in the last 25 years. It is genuinely astonishing how passionate the film’s fans are. And this 25th anniversary presentation is the first time many of them will be able to see it on the big screen!”

“Suddenly touched by the crime overrunning the streets of Boston, Irish twin brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus (Sean Flanery and Norman Reedus) embark on a journey to cleanse their city of evil with their own brand of vigilante justice straight from the Emerald Isle, one fueled by Catholic ritual and spiritual belief. As the bodies of notorious gangsters hit the floor, one after the other, the brothers become controversial folk heroes in their adoptive community. But eccentric FBI agent, Paul Smecker (Willem Dafoe) is closing in on them fast as the boys deliver vengeance from what many believe is the great and terrible right hand of God. Are they sinners or are they Saints? You decide.”
Norman Reedus Has Revealed Boondock Saints 3 Plot Details
Released back in 1999, The Boondock Saints follows Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery as two brothers on a mission of revenge. After achieving cult classic status, a sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, which finds the brothers dragged back into the firing line after being framed for the murder of a Catholic priest, was released in 2009.
Now, after all these years, a third movie is in development. While Troy Duffy will not return to direct and write the long-awaited sequel, stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery will reprise their roles as the vengeful brothers Murphy and Connor MacManus. Thunder Road, the producer behind the John Wick franchise, will join forces with rights holder Dragonfly Films to create what has been described as an “expansion” of the series, with The Boondock Saints 3 reportedly centering on “the indoctrination of new ‘Saints.’”
