The Penguin finale pulled no punches, much to the disappointment of many fans across the world. After eight episodes of building up his diabolical persona and the rise of Oz Cobb in the criminal underworld, the finale did not shy away from giving almost every other character the most tragic ending imaginable. From Penguin murdering his own partner in crime to Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti) getting a fate worse than death, it’s safe to say audiences have more than enough reasons to hate the titular character, brilliantly played by Colin Farrell. Obviously, beware of spoilers ahead for The Penguin finale.
If you’re like this MovieWeb author, you were frantically looking up other people’s reactions to the shocking events that unfolded in The Penguin finale. If not, that’s okay, because we’ve gathered some of the best social media posts reacting to the insane moments throughout the eighth episode. The most react-worthy moment of the night was undoubtedly Oz’s brutal murder of Victor (Rhenzy Feliz), his apprentice and partner in crime that has been there with him since the jump. Most reactions were people praying for Oz’s downfall and for Robert Pattinson’s Batman to beat the utter snot out of him. “This is one of the most heartbreaking and tragic deaths in recent memory on television… RIP to Victor “Vic” Aguilar,” one user on X said. Meanwhile, some understood that this was an inevitable outcome, no matter how much it hurt to see it happen. X user @starkcanarie said the following:
“I knew this was going to be his destiny but in the end I let myself believe for a second that Oz would reward Vic’s loyalty after he orchestrated everything for Oz to win but no… this is incredible writing, this is how you do a rotten villain”
Although many were shocked to see Vic die in such a brutal manner, and Sofia Falcone get stuck back into Arkham Asylum instead of dying, some recognized that Penguin was never supposed to be a hero. It was easy to root for him at the start due to his underdog nature, but Oz Cobb was always destined for evil. X user The Green Kasey gave a fitting summary of how the conclusion of The Penguin was the perfect setup for one of Batman’s greatest villains.
“In the end, Oz won—he got everything he wanted—but everybody who lost, LOST. Francis and Sofia would be better off dead, and Vic… I mean, wow. You have to hate the guy. The

finale didn’t pull any punches. THAT is how you tell a villain’s story.”
Is The Penguin Season 2 On the Way?
The finale of The Penguin has Oz Cobb going legit, using the leverage gained from turning in Sofia to the authorities to gaslight his way to the top of the criminal food chain. However, much of his inner circle is gone, and the only family he has left is his mother, who is now in a coma, the one outcome she begged her son to not allow to happen. Although Oz’s future is looking brighter than ever before in terms of his spot in Gotham’s hierarchy, his newfound relevancy may land him at odds with a certain Dark Knight. Matt Reeves has already revealed he’s been in talks with HBO on a potential Season 2, but nothing has been confirmed at this point.
