Comic Book Gaming reported that a new board game based on Only Murders in the Building is coming soon to retailers. Created by Funko Games, a subsidiary of Goliath Games, the new board game is based on Hulu’s hit TV series Only Murders in the Building and contains the vital murder mystery element. As described on Amazon, the game involves searching for clues throughout the Arconia, connecting the clues via tiles in the center, and determining who the murderer is.
The new game is one of the first to be released since the acquisition of Funko Games by Goliath Games. In January of 2024, Goliath Games acquired Funko Games, sealing a deal between the two respected and popular game companies. The deal is compiled of a multi-year licensing agreement allowing Goliath to be the exclusive distributor of Funko’s existing catalog, as well as collaborating on new releases in which Funko will receive royalties. CEO of Goliath, Jochanan Golad, highly regards Funko Games and its recently expanded portfolio from Forrest-Pruzan.
“We look forward to bringing the Funko brand and style to the game aisle in new and innovative ways… We believe we’re a perfect fit to partner with Funko to develop and distribute games on a global level.”
Following the release of Prospero Hall employees, key creators for Funko Gaming, reports of the deal circulated quickly. Interim CEO of Funko, Mike Lunsford, believes the partnership will streamline the business by focusing on its assets and intends to use the proceeds from this transaction to reduce its debt.
“We believe that Goliath’s size and scale, as well as their intimate knowledge of the global games and toys market, make them a strong partner for Funko in the board game category.”
Funko Games has had no shortage of releases over the last few years, such as the board game FunkoVerse: Strategy Game and the card game Something Wild! Both of these include various themed versions, such as Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars, or other franchises. One of the first games by Goliath and Funko’s team-up was Bitty Pop! Chase, a game using the popular Bitty Pops, was immediately popular with several different licenses after its release earlier this year.
