There have been ongoing debates regarding if musicians should keep playing their hits or they should dive into their deeper, less-popular catalog in their live shows. QOTSA’s Josh Homme had even picked his side on this debate, explaining how he had a ‘pact’ with his audience to play hits.
So, when Interview Magazine asked Joe Walsh in 2012 whether he actually liked playing one Eagles mega-hit or did it out of obligation to their setlist, the rocker, perhaps, surprised most with his answer, stating how he enjoyed playing the said track because of its ‘challenges.’
Well, the song in question was, ‘Hotel California,’ as Joe explained whether he was ‘sick’ of playing it before audiences:
“No. I should be, but I’m not. That song is really hard to play the right way. Some of the other songs are automatic, and it’s not as exciting to play them as it used to be. But with ‘Hotel California,’ I really have to sit up straight and pay attention to play it right. That’s one of the songs I look forward to because that it’s still a challenge.”
It seems that Walsh had no problem with playing the Eagles’, respectively, most-popular hit since he found the chords ‘challenging.’ This could be good news for fans who enjoy listening to Joe tearing apart some of the most memorable riffs of ‘Hotel California.’
However, it also appears that the guitarist might have to take a little break from playing the hit track, as the band only recently announced they would be on the road for the last time, for a farewell tour. So, check out right here to read what Joe had to say about their final tour.
