Don’t fret about Fear or Anxiety, because you can now bring the record-breaking Joy home to relish in all the old and new emotions. That’s right, Inside Out 2’s highly anticipated digital release is now official; watch the release announcement above. And the film, which reached the billion-dollar mark faster than any other animated flick at the box office, is slated for digital release on August 20. Fans will be able to watch the Inside Out sequel on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, formerly Vudu. Meanwhile, the must-see movie will drop less than a month later on September 10, in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD formats.
Inside Out 2’s 4K Blu-ray will be available in a limited-edition collectible SteelBook. The home video’s special features include a brand-new documentary, an alternate opening, and four other deleted scenes. Pixar’s top-grossing film of all time lit a fire under a summer movie season that was struggling mightily before director Kelsey Mann’s animated flick began its theatrical run back on June 14.
It didn’t take long for Inside Out 2’s family-friendly story to win over moviegoers, who were aching for a good reason to flood cinemas this summer. But for the fans who haven’t seen the compelling animated adventure yet, be sure to check out Inside Out 2’s official synopsis below to find out more:
“Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley
just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected:
new Emotions!
Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up.
And it looks like she’s not alone.”
Inside Out 2’s Home Video Release Boasts Exciting Special Features
As predicted by Inside Out 2’s box office forecast, Pixar’s animated feature went on to dominate not only the summer movie season, but the entirety of 2024. At the time of this writing, as Deadpool & Wolverine nears the $900-million mark globally, the Inside Out sequel has made over $1.5 billion worldwide (per Box Office Mojo). But when the film drops on home video, fans can expect a plethora of extras which went unseen in cinemas.
“Unlock the Vault” is touted as a “kind of visual commentary” that gives Inside Out enthusiasts a behind-the-scenes look at the “vault scene” and the inspirations behind its creation. Another BTS offering titled “New Emotions” is a brand-new documentary that will delve deeper into the sequel’s characters existing in Riley’s head, including Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, aka Boredom, and, of course, Envy. Plus, an alternate opening to Inside Out 2 is revealed among the five deleted scenes, which are detailed below, courtesy of the official press release:
Inside Out 2 Special Features (Deleted Scenes)
- Cold Open – In this alternate opening, a now 13-year-old Riley awkwardly fumbles her way through an original song she wrote for a school audition.
- Broken Joy – After momentarily being unable to drive the console, Joy worries that she might be starting to malfunction.
- Pool Party – After Riley tries too hard to be fun at an older teen’s party – resulting in utter embarrassment – her “Anxiety” becomes “Self-Loathing” who then ousts our hero emotions from headquarters.
- Puberty Park – After seeing their faces printed on “wanted posters,” Joy and the others rogue emotions race through a puberty-themed amusement park while being chased by mind worker cops.
- Shame Spiral – At a lock-in with some cool, older girls, Riley and friends play a game of “Never Have I Ever” that goes a bit too far – wreaking havoc in Riley’s mind.

Inside Out 2 Breaks Records & Reaches Major Milestone at the Box Office
The latest box office earnings for Inside Out 2 will have Pixar jumping for joy.
While Inside Out 2 enjoys box office success this summer, director Kelsey Mann’s movie fared equally well with both fans and critics. At the time of this writing, the Pixar film registers 91% on the Tomatometer, while also boasting an audience score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. And Inside Out 2’s nearly perfect “A” CinemaScore reflects how much moviegoers enjoyed the flick as a theatergoing experience.
And as well as Greta Gerwig’s bright-pink blockbuster Barbie performed last summer ($1.44 billion worldwide), Inside Out 2 has surpassed that mark — and stands as one of the must-sees of this summer. But Deadpool & Wolverine will ultimately have something to say about which is truly 2024’s best-performing film.
