Damien Leone, the director behind the gorefest franchise Terrifier, has confirmed a fourth film is now in the works. While he didn’t provide any further details, Leone is usually pretty assertive, and all his promises have some truth behind them. So, if there’s someone we can trust, it’s him. Leone was careful not to share more about the upcoming horror sequel, but if the third movie does as well as previous Terrifier films, then a fourth one will surely be a must. In terms of fan-favorite horror franchises, there’s nothing quite like Terrifier when it comes to delivering the goods thanks to Leone’s ability to manipulate horror tropes, giving them a twist while providing all manner of violence and gore.
While Terrifier 3 still hasn’t been widely released, Leone is currently showing the third part of the franchise at festivals. Last week, the film premiered at Fantastic Fest, and the director took part in a Q&A to talk about the film. It was there that he was asked about the possibility of a fourth film and his answer was pretty positive, as per a report Variety.
Yes, there will be a Terrifier 4.
Terrifier is a horror franchise based on a classically ghoulish storyline about a ghostly clown who slaughters innocent victims in various creative, and increasingly savage ways. Whille it started off as a franchise not known for great character development, in the sequel, Leone made sure to expand on the characters with the use of Halloween night as a backdrop for the story. Part 3 will see Art the Clown wearing a Santa suit and wreaking havoc during Christmas. The question is, what happens when you run out of iconic celebrations? Is Valentine’s Day or Thanksgiving next?
Terrfier Has Become a Hugely Successful B Movie Horror Franchise
There’s no denying the growth of Leone and his Terrifier franchise. The director insists on staying within the boundaries of B-movie horror, and this is exactly what has made the fanbase grow, as more followers join the Church of Art the Clown every day. Something that seems unbelievable when you remember that Leone struggled to collect enough money to make the first Terrifier film. Part 1 of the series was an indie feature made on a very limited budget of $35,000 with most of it going to the practical effects department. While the film had an Indiegogo campaign, it failed to collect enough money, and Leone worked with what he had, with Terrifier going to make just under half a million at the box office and earning cult status.
So, when Leone made Terrifier 2, he used his much bigger budget of $250,000 to expand the lore, up the stakes, and increase the violence. Much like its predecessor, the sequel also achieved its well-deserved cult status and made over $15 million. A third entry was, of course, immediately approved. With a budget of a whopping $2 million, Terrifier 3 is sure to impress fans more than ever. Leone has promised a whole new experience for fans of Art and his penchant for gore. And it sounds like he has achieved just that.
