The celebrated creators behind one of the biggest shows of all time, Stranger Things, are set to produce the new horror series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen for Netflix. Currently knee-deep in production on the final season of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers will serve as executive producers on the series through their Upside Down banner. At the helm of the new project will be 29-year-old filmmaker Haley Z. Boston, who previously served as writer on the Netflix series Brand New Cherry Flavor and Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
Per Variety, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen has also tapped Andrea Sperling (Transparent, AMurder at the End of the World) to serve as executive producer on the Netflix show, which is being billed as an “atmospheric horror series.” Check out the official logline below:
“Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen
is an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title…”
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s VP of Scripted Series (US & Canada), says he’s “thrilled” to once again be teaming with Matt and Ross Duffer, while praising newcomer Boston’s vision:
“We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with dream partners Matt, Ross and Hilary to bring this unexpected and spine-tingling story to life through Haley’s uniquely riveting vision.”
The Duffer Brothers Call Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen ‘Twisted’ & ‘Terrifying’
As creators of one of the most successful shows in television history, the Duffer brothers know a thing or two about talent. Stranger Things has helped make its young cast household names, with Millie Bobby Brown in particular having a spectacular career outside the series, which she started on when she was just 10 years old. Not to be outdone, Finn Wolfhard has had a stellar career himself, starring in Andy Muschietti’s IT films, as well as Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its sequel, Frozen Empire.
While Haley Z. Boston has been slowly building up her own resume over the last four years, she’s set to break out as one of Hollywood’s hottest writers if the Duffers have anything to say about it. Commenting that they were “knocked flat” when they read the script for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, the duo called Boston a “major new talent” in a statement of their own:
“We were knocked flat when we first read Haley’s script. She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just… very Haley. We feel so lucky to be producing her first show, and we can’t wait to share her vision with the rest of the world.”
