This article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 4 Finale
The Boys delivered plenty of shocking and bloody twists as Season 4 came to a close on Prime Video, but it saved one almost forgotten appearance until its very last scene. While it was rumored that Jensen Ackles would be returning to The Boys after his Season 3 stint as Soldier Boy – and a brief appearance as the character in spin-off series Gen V – he failed to appear throughout the new season, potentially laying waste to fans’ hopes of seeing a Supernatural reunion in Season 5. But reforming the trinity of Ackles, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Jared Padalecki is now well and truly on again.
Even since it was announced that Morgan was joining Season 4 of The Boys, fans have been waiting to see him appear again on screen with his Supernatural son Ackles. While this has not happened, mainly due in part to the revelation that Morgan’s character, Joe Kessler, is a figment of Billy Butcher’s tumor hallucinations, the post-credits scene of Season 4 has at least hinted that they could somehow appear in the same scene in Season 5.
The final scene finds Antony Starr’s slowly-eroding Homelander being led to a secret containment unit by his newest political ally. There he finds an isolation chamber, and when the camera finally pans over it, we see Ackles’ Soldier Boy in a state of suspended animation. This means we are certain to see Soldier Boy back in action in Season 5, and the final moment of the main show also made it clear that Morgan’s Kessler isn’t going anywhere as Butcher prepares for his final showdown with his archenemy.
Will The Boys Season 5 Have a Supernatural Reunion?
Fans have been calling on The Boys creator Eric Kripke – who also created Supernatural – to bring both Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jared Padalecki into the series for a long time now. After many scheduling conflicts, Kripe was finally able to make one half of that request come true, with Morgan joining the series as FBI Agent Joe Kessler – or, a version of him, as it turned out. Now, the question is whether Kripke can manage to get Padalecki to complete the reunion that really needs to happen before The Boys comes to an end.
The good news is that Padalecki has already dropped several hints that he would love to join The Boys in Season 5. Speaking on the subject back in April with Collider, the actor made it clear that he would love to be part of The Boys’ final season, but does have one condition.
“And my response to him 90% of the time is, ‘Dude, I’m 41 now with three kids. I’m not 25 and working out three hours a day. I know you’re going to f-cking make me get naked, so give me a heads-up. I’m in, but let me get a nutritionist and a trainer and get in the hyperbaric chamber for eight months before you make me show up.’ But yeah, it would obviously be a lot of fun to see Kripke again and to work on that show, which is a great show that I’m a fan of.”
