The R-rated Prime Video series The Boys has set records during its Season 4 finale week, racking up billions of minutes viewed. Totaling over 1.3 billion views between July 15 and July 21, The Boys set a new Nielsen streaming record for Prime Video. Besides ranking as number one among all streaming titles on the platform during this time interval, this was the first time the show had taken the top spot.
According to Deadline, since Season 4 debuted, the show has made it into the top 10 every week as well. This past week also marked the eighth time that The Boys had hit the 1 billion-minute milestone, setting a new record for Prime Video titles.
The Boys also has made nearly two dozen appearances in the Nielsen streaming Top 10. The show was followed by House of the Dragon, which also managed to rack up over a billion minutes, and Cobra Kai, which ranked as No. 3 on the Nielsen streaming Top 10. The Boys rightfully earned its spot on the Nielsen streaming Top 10, as the finale was well received with some major cliffhangers.
The Boys’ Strong Season Finale Sets the Stage for an Epic Season 5
The latest installment opens six months after the events of Season 3, as The Boys attempt to work alongside the CIA to assassinate Victoria Neuman. During this time, Neuman tries to keep her career going as Homelander gains even more power than ever before. Butcher is ousted from his position as the Boys’ leader; after losing their trust, he must find a way to regain it so that they can save the world from the supes.
The most unique aspect of Season 4 is how it successfully highlights issues throughout the rest of the series, tying up all loose ends. Regardless, this doesn’t mean Season 4 didn’t have its issues, with some critics complaining that the overall story underwhelmed. On top of that, the shock factor that The Boys is known for is beginning to wear thin.

The successful season of The Boys has been recorded as the fourth most-watched television season ever for Prime Video, trailing just behind the first seasons of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Fallout Season 1, and Reacher Season 2. Prime Video says that 60% of viewership for The Boys comes from outside the U.S., in countries like the UK, India, Germany, and Canada. Meanwhile, it’s ranked as No. 1 on Prime Video in over 170 countries. Due to the series’ success, it’s no surprise that Season 5 was ordered in May 2024. However, showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that this will be the final season of the show.
