Jeremy Allen White, the star of the FX “comedy” drama The Bear, has shared an update about when Season 4 will begin shooting. And while it may seem like a long time, it’ll no doubt be worth the wait. The show about the most hostile kitchen to ever exist has fast become one of modern television’s most compelling shows. In an interview with Esquire, the actor, who plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the show, provided an update about Season 4’s upcoming production. Unfortunately, it won’t help those viewers who deal with anxiety the way Carmy does, as the crew won’t be reuniting in 2024. But at least White has now given fans something to work with:
“I’m not exactly sure when. I know it’s not going to be until next year. I imagine sometime early next year, a similar start date to the last couple of years: February/March time.”
In the interview, White also reveals who he would like to have as a guest on the show, with the actor choosing Oscar winner and Moon star Sam Rockwell.
“Sam Rockwell is one of my favorites – I would love to have him on the show in some way.”
Throughout its three seasons, the show has featured major cameo appearances, with the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Olivia Colman, Molly Ringwald, and Josh Hartnett, among many others featuring in the series. Season 3 took things even further by including world-class chefs in the cameo roster. No doubt Rockwell would make a very welcome addition.
The Bear is Still Rocking the Emmys (as a Comedy)
The Bear Season 2 shook the ballots once again at the upcoming Emmys. It garnered 23 nominations, making it the most nominated comedy in a single year, a record previously held by 30 Rock, the show created by Tina Fey. According to John Landgraf, Chairman of FX Networks, the incredible attention garnered by the show is causing scheduling conflicts with all the major stars who have since found their way into Hollywood. He says this was also the cause for Season 4 to be pushed further:
“We couldn’t bring it back sooner because of all the film projects the actors are on right now. We started a show with a team of great actors. Now we have a show with a team of movie stars.”
Season 1 won ten Emmy Awards in total, and four Golden Globes, making The Bear a proven “awards darling.” What The Bear hasn’t been able to move away from is the controversy regarding its categorization as a comedy. Those familiar with the show know that it complies with a humor element, but at its core, it’s a riveting drama that shows themes more adjacent to the genre. Pivotal episodes like Season 1’s “Braciole,” Season 2’s “Fishes,” and Season 3’s “Napkins,” are perfect examples of why the show is far from a straight-up comedy.
The controversy has even resulted in some rival networks lobbying with the TV Academy in order to change the show’s current category, but nothing’s been modified so far, and The Bear remains TV’s funniest drama. At least, for now.
