The Acolyte season finale finally delivered on a Star Wars tease from nearly 20 years ago. The finale episode primarily focused on the original characters the series had introduced and solved the main storyline, but creator Leslye Headland certainly had plenty of fun teasing some fan-favorite cameos. The final scene showed Yoda (or at least the back of his head), but earlier in the episode, The Acolyte finally introduced a legendary Sith lord we’ve been hearing about since Revenge of the Sith.
During the Season 1 finale, when Qimir and Osha finish training in a cave and leave to confront Mae and Jedi Master Sol. A mysterious figure lurks in the cave, watching them. This figure is recognizable as an alien of the Munn species and is the Sith Master Darth Plagueis, who was first teased in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith back in 2005. Despite being such an important part of Star Wars lore, this marks the first time Plagueis has been shown in either live action or animation. Take a look at the legendary Star Wars villain below:
The Stage Is Set for The Acolyte Season 2
As soon as The Acolyte was announced to be taking place in the final days of the High Republic, about 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, fans naturally assumed they would see Darth Plagueis in some form. We even speculated that the series would introduce Darth Plagueis or his master, Darth Tenebrous. Yet for seven episodes, The Acolyte was committed to its idea of expanding the Star Wars franchise with new characters, and its main villain was The Stranger, later revealed to be Qimir.

Revealing Plagueis in the final episode certainly hints at a larger story that Leslye Headland wants to tell in The Acolyte. Currently, the series has not been renewed for a second season, but fans have taken to social media with the hashtag #RenewTheAcolyte. The inclusion of Darth Plagueis is an exciting one that could be expanded upon in a second season, with him keeping eyes on his apprentice, Qimir — who is looking to train Mae as his own apprentice to usurp Plagueis. Given that fans already know that Plagueis will not meet his demise until he takes Palpatine on as an apprentice, that means Qimir is destined to fail. The Acolyte tease of Darth Plagueis now sets up a potential second season to truly allow Star Wars fans to get new insight into a character that has been a mystery to them for nearly two decades.
