To celebrate the release of Terrifier 3 this October, Cinemark has unveiled the official Art the Clown popcorn bucket that will accompany the movie, and it’s everything we were hoping for. The bucket is a replica of Terrifier’s deranged villain adorned in a ghastly grin and Santa hat to coincide with the theme of the latest sequel. While the previous two films were centered around Halloween, this time around, director Damien Leone is bringing fans a December to dismember as Art returns to Miles County just in time to jingle everyone’s bells.
Per their X account, Cinemark released a short video unveiling the Art the Clown popcorn bucket that will be available at all Cinemark, Regal, and AMC theater chains. There’s no word yet on how much it will cost, but pre-orders for the Terrifier 3 bucket will start on September 18, so fans will have plenty of time to get their hands on one before the release of the movie. Check it out below.
Considering how much Leone and company like to push the boundaries of acceptable taste, the Art the Clown popcorn bucket is surprisingly tame. They could have gone in any number of directions for maximum shock value, but instead decided to stick with something a little more traditional that can be easily displayed on a mantle after use. There’s no over-the-top gore, no Art flaying someone alive, and – thankfully – no one getting split down the middle with an ax. The sequel will have enough of that already, we’re sure, so we didn’t really need that in a popcorn bucket.
Themed Popcorn Buckets Are All the Rage
While themed popcorn buckets have been a staple of the theater experience for decades, they’ve usually just been a simple tin with a wrap around featuring characters from the movie they were designed to promote. It hasn’t been until recently that companies like AMC have recognized that they can bring in a ton of extra cash by designing elaborate vessels to satiate the most rabid fans. There was Batman’s cowl in 2022, the Barbie corvette in 2023, and don’t forget about the Dune 2 sandworm lid that went viral earlier this year for being its own personal Rorschach test.
With prices ranging from $25 – $50 bucks and no one batting an eye about forking over the cash, it’s clear that there’s definitely a market for themed popcorn buckets, and the timing couldn’t be better. With theaters struggling post-COVID, they’re an excellent way to entice people back to the movies and help boost concession revenue. Something that theaters keep the bulk of, unlike ticket revenue that they have to split with the studios.
For now, it seems like collectible popcorn buckets are here to stay, and with the secondary market already in full swing, it’s going to be harder and harder to get your hands on one. Heck, the Dune 2 sandworm is already going for upwards of $800 on eBay. No, really. We’re not kidding. So Terrifier fans, get those pre-orders done ASAP if you don’t want to miss out on all the fun, and check out Terrifier 3 when it hits theaters on October 11. Check out the NSFW trailer below.
