Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass has taken his apology back.
Gass earlier posted an apology post on his social media accounts after his comments on Donald Trump’s assassination attempt. However, he now seems to have deleted it. Instead, the rocker recently shared another birthday post from a helicopter. He posted the video with the following caption.
“Birthday helicopter ride around Sydney Harbour, hours before the storm.”
At the end of his caption, the rocker added a winking face emoji.
Gass’ Apology
Both Jack Black and Gass issued separate apologies for Gass’ comments about the incident.
Black wrote:
“I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form. After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Gass added in his now-deleted apology:
“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anymore. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgement. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret and pain I’ve caused.”
What Caused The Backlash And The Apology?
On July 14, the day after Trump was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania, Tenacious D performed in ICC Sydney Theatre for Gass’ 64th birthday.
During the show, Black brought out a birthday cake for Gass onstage and asked him to make a wish. Gass said:
“Don’t miss Trump next time.”
The video went viral online, and many people slammed Gass and the band.
In response to the reactions, Tenacious D had to cancel all remaining dates on their Spicy Meatball Tour, as well as all future creative projects involving the duo.
