Megadeth’s new album might arrive in 2025.
“Yeah, that’s actually the plan,” Teemu Mäntysaari told John The Metal Mailman when asked if he and his bandmates are working on new music. “Right now everybody’s gathering their own riff ideas, and then, at some point, we’re gonna put them together and probably record in Nashville. And the plan is to get the next album done next year.”
In June, Megadeth bassist James LoMenzo also confirmed that the band was working on new material. He told Metal Global, “We’re actively working on music right now. In a way — well, it is; it’s a new band at this point. It’s a new version of Megadeth, as if nobody expected that coming. We’re talking with Dave every day. Dave really wants to do another record and just get something fresh out there.”
“The band has such a cool history across all its albums,” Teemu also previously said of the next album’s direction. “I know there are expectations, and you can’t please everybody, but there’s a really good continuum from the last two albums.”
The guitarist added, “I don’t know exactly, but I think we’ll maybe look to get back to the roots. Maybe you’ll hear some ‘Rust in Peace’ vibes, or maybe some things like the last two. Either way, the direction Megadeth is going now is good, and the vibe within the band seems to be in a very good place.”
“We’re not on tour right now. We’re getting ready to go on tour,” Dave Mustaine also said in February. “We’re preparing. I am also preparing the studio and all of the equipment, getting it ready to start writing. I’m not writing new music at the moment, but I’m getting prepared.”
Megadeth’s latest album, ‘The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!’ arrived on September 2, 2022. The next record will be Mäntysaari’s first album with Megadeth after officially joining the band in November 2023.
