In the new episode of Spirit Campfire, Ted Nugent set the record straight about his thoughts on gay and black people.
During the chat, Nugent said he wasn’t a ‘racist homophobe’ because he had black gay friends. He explained while talking about his part in the Cactus tribute album:
“Cactus tribute album, Carmine [Appice] thanks for inviting me. By the way Doug Pinnick is a black gay guy and I love him. ‘Well Nugent is like a racist homophobe,’ except for all the black gay guys I hang out with. It’s hysteric. Doug Pinnick, what a fire-breathing talent, what a soulful guy.”
He then shared his thoughts on the album and revealed that he didn’t expect to hear Dee Snider play ‘Caucasian stuff’:
“We should have Doug Pinnick on, let’s do that. Have Lind to get a hold of Doug Pinnick, hell I’ll get a hold of Doug Pinnick. But the Cactus tribute album and with Dee Snider, who would have thought the Twisted Sister guy playing all that Caucasian stuff? By the way, Twisted Sister, they had soul.”
‘Nobody Cares If You’re Gay’
The musician’s earlier comments about LGBTQ+ and pride didn’t add up with his recent ones.
In an episode of Nightly Nuge, the other host explained that 11 NFL cities were refusing to celebrate the pride month. Even though he recently claimed not to be homophobic, he responded with the following:
“Hallelujah! Boy, I knew I felt the love somewhere.”
He then went on to say that no one cared if someone was gay:
“But again, if you’re gay here’s the bottom line — nobody cares. We just want to know, are you honest? Do you show up on time? Do you put your heart and soul into being the best that you can be? Can your family and friends and your fellow Americans trust you?”
