The teaser for Hellbound Season 2 has been released, revealing both the release date and a significant resurrection that many fans had hoped for after the first season. Hellbound, created by Yeon Sang-ho, is based on his webtoon of the same name and is one of the few Netflix Korean dramas that is not romance-focused.
The series premiered in 2021 and ran for six episodes before being renewed by Netflix a year later. However, the first teaser has taken two years to arrive, but it confirms that fans don’t have much longer to wait for the new episodes to arrive. The teaser confirms that new episodes of the second season will be released on Friday, October 25, showcasing the resurrection of the New Truth’s chairman Jung, who has been recast with Kim Sung Cheol following Yoo’s departure due to legal issues.
The story is set in an alternate version of Earth, where mysterious beings inform people of their sins and issue them a decree of their impending doom. Soon after the appointed time arrives, their wretched souls are dragged to hell in the most horrifying manner, often by supernatural entities known as “Angels,” who seem more like demons.
The teaser for Hellbound Season 2 is brief, but the emphasis on Jung’s resurrection raises questions about his role in the evolving New Truth organization. While no more scenes were featured in the teaser, the first season’s finale revealed how the second season would center on the efforts of both organizations, New Truth and Soda, with the former trying to hide the truth from the world and the latter attempting to uncover it. Watch the teaser below:
What To Expect From Hellbound Season 2
In the first season of Hellbound, Jung, despite his position as chairman of the New Truth, which promotes the will of these supernatural entities, receives a prophecy twenty years before his imminent demise. However, he chooses to deal with it in secret, keeping the rest of the world unaware of what happened to him. In Season 2, Jung will be resurrected in the exact spot where he was condemned to hell.
One theory is that Jung’s soul was returned to the living world as a balance, since both Young Jae and So Hyun sacrificed themselves to protect their baby, who also received a decree. However, the entire sequence of the couple’s death is riddled with plotholes, as the Executioners are not supposed to send innocent people to hell.
At the end of the first season, the investigators discover that the remains from the bodies of those who have been condemned to hell contain inhumane traces of living organisms, implying that they may have been inhabited by something otherworldly. This brings us to another possibility: if an individual is in charge of the whole prophecy thing, it’s possible that they have made a deal with something supernatural, in exchange for global domination. In other words, everyone who was sentenced to hell by the Executioners might actually return to life, only to be occupied by these mysterious entities who seek to take over the world. That said, these are merely theories based on the first season’s finale.
